Bad breath can be caused by temporary and reversible factors such as diet and poor oral hygiene. It could also be a sign of a serious dental problem, however. If you have foul-smelling breath that will not go away no matter what you do, this could suggest issues like gum disease, advanced tooth decay or some other oral infection. Schedule a dental checkup if you need help identifying the cause of your halitosis.
Teeth can naturally be yellow, or they may turn yellow over time because of things like age, gum recession, enamel wear, and stains from food, drink or smoking. Whatever the cause may be, some professional teeth whitening can help make your smile look younger and brighter.
Keep your teeth cavity-free by brushing at least twice per day and flossing at least once every day. In addition, try to limit the amount of sweets, sweet beverages and refined carbohydrates in your diet as these foods promote tooth decay. Reinforce your tooth enamel by using a fluoride-based mouth rinse.
Flossing cleans those snug areas between your teeth where a toothbrush cannot reach. If you do not clean between your teeth frequently, the food acids and plaque bacteria that stay there can wear away your tooth enamel and cause cavities.
Plan to have a dental check-up and professional scale and polish at least twice per year. Some people can go longer between visits and some need to see the dentist more often than twice per year. Plan a visit to Allsopp Dental so we can recommend a dental care schedule customised to your needs.
Bleeding gums are suggestive of chronic gum inflammation, or gingivitis. If the inflammation extends beyond your gums, however, then you may be suffering from gum disease, also called periodontitis. Healthy gums do not bleed while brushing or flossing, so if you notice bleeding, schedule a dental health check-up.
